Forum: GratefulDead Subject: DSO tonight!!

Going to see DSO in Lancaster, PA for the first time tonight. Especially since I never got to see "the Boys" I cannot explain how excited I am. The biggest thing I'm looking forward to is the "unexpected." Going in blind, not knowing what show they are going to recreate, what song will pop up next, etc.
I love the fact that the shows are archived & can be placed on disc but that sort of takes some of the fun out of it, if that makes any sense? I mean the show itself is fun but you always know the order of the setlist.
Just wondering what some of you veterans think about this & if you can describe what sense of anticipation you felt through the years when attending or getting ready to attend a show?

I saw them on 11/11, and they were magic! 11/10 is on the Archives. Check out Black Peter and Sugar Magnolia.

The Christmas analogy is good. I'm finding it hard to explain. It just felt GOOD!!! Good to be there, knowing yet not knowing what was to come... And smiling a lot more that on a normal day. High and Happy! Have fun tonight, tap a toe for me...

As long as they don't select the meadowlands 95 with that Wharf rat you'll be fine. Supposedly, from time to time, they do their own setlsit and not actualy recreate.

Went to see them Sunday night- they played a small club as "Terrapin Nation"- This was the 3rd time- I have to say I never thought these guys would mail one in- but in my estimation they dead- perhaps it was the disappointment of an original setlist that was not that imaginitive (but for a version of JGB's Ophelia and a decent Birdsong)- but it was not the DSO of a few years ago- I think there is a different bass player now- the biggest change, though, is the lead guitarist does not really sound much like Jerry anymore- there was a time 2000-2003 when it was so on target it was a dream, really.

I cannot say I was surprised, though, as I listened to some recent shows here and was not bowled over- but I truly hope they play(ed) the best show they have played in years just for you our friend

Hey man congrats! Yeah, anticipation was always very high days before the shows. Like Christmas. Just getting all your stuff together and calling friends you might meet there...It was all very fun.

I had a '67 VW Bus which would be loaded with beer and friends...goooooood times! I miss getting to the lot and hanging out all day w/ thousands of heads anticpating the party/show...

dark star orchestra - great dead "cover" band - they recreate the shows down to the stage setups, set lists, and placement of musicians. very very cool group. check them out even here on the archive. John who plays Jerry is almost freaky how close he is in voice and playing - if you close your eyes you get chills on certain songs.

Okay, sure. Sometimes I'm a little slow. Was reading the Steal Your Face thread from earlier, and it took me more than a few minutes to decipher what CRS meant, even though that is one of my favorite Grateful Dead album tracks. Acronyms are juts a bit cryptic to me, I guess.

Saw Dark Star Orchestra in St. Louis a few years back. Didn't know what to expect. Actually thought it might be orchestral versions of Dead songs.

Pretty silly, eh?
